The STEAM Approach

[Science Technology Engineering Mathematics] + ARTS = STEAM

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. It is a derivative from its earlier version, STEM, but extending the educational journey through hands-on arts education. The STEAM approach is designed to ignite a child’s imagination with experiential learning in a fun-filled environment.

Tina Francis

Tina is an experienced business development professional with over 20 years history working in the banking and mortgage industries. However, after becoming a mother, she wanted to create something innovative, fun and unique for children through advanced S.T.E.A.M education programs. After researching S.T.E.A.M education for her son who started to display immense curiosity and advanced learning abilities at the age of two, she decided to partner with IDEA Lab Kids, an innovator in S.T.E.A.M education in the U.S. to open a few locations in the Greater Toronto Area.

She has been recognized by the Canadian Mortgage Professional Magazine as one of 50 key influential people in the mortgage industry and has been recognized within various publications for her contributions to the mortgage industry. She earned her Executive Master of Business Administration and was the first-place recipient of the Small Business Institute’s Experiential Project of the Year International Award in 2018.

Tina has always prioritized quality in everything that she does and plans to bring that same level of passion to her IDEA Lab Kids franchises along with the help of her team. Kids are learning at lightning speed and as leaders of tomorrow, we need to equip them with the tools and resources to help them explore and feed their curiosity and imagination. IDEA Lab Kids offers a wide variety of cutting-edge technology and resources to do just that – from graphic and video design, robotics, 3D printing, engineering, physics in motion, coding, chemistry lab, movie studio, puzzles, logic, cooking classes and more.

She is particularly proud to support young girls in S.T.E.A.M because historically their male counterparts were the ones encouraged to pursue engineering and tech. Girls are still really underrepresented in these industries and we are excited to influence young women in S.T.E.A.M. These girls love things like coding, and she is proud to help make these learning environments more available.
